Wood Street, a creative design and development company, was looking to improve its branding with a fresh new set of visuals. Challenge accepted. I find that, in addition to selecting mediums and colors, it helps to establish rules in creating illustrations so that they form a uniform look for individual brands. In this case, the rules were simple – follow a grid of horizontals, verticals and a 35 degree diagonal. Paired with pre-selected brand colors and a paint medium, I set about creating a variety of icons that are both modern and retro in quality. Since all of these icons follow the same grid pattern, the elements fit nicely together in any number of ways. They work well as icon elements and stand-alone illustrations for company branding.
